Cross-border mobility

The Interurban Cross-Border Line   is a high-performance line with a frequency of 10 minutes during peak hours between Annecy and Geneva Airport.

From December 15, 2025, the timetable for the cross-border line   will be significantly expanded. This ambitious project would not have been possible without close collaboration between the two sides of the border, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the Canton of Geneva, which jointly financed this improvement to the service.

A concrete response to growing user demand

With 21 round trips per day and an attractive journey time of 1 hour 10 minutes according to the timetable, line 272 is proving very popular with users. Passenger numbers have been rising steadily for the past four years.  Cross-border commuters are increasingly choosing public transport for their journeys.

From December 15, 12 new services will be added to the offering, including 8 express and 4 local services. This will increase the frequency to every 10 minutes during the morning rush hour and every 15 minutes for the return journey.

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region points out that these efforts are part of a strategy to reduce the environmental impact of transportation and a desire to meet the growing demand for travel linked to the region's population growth.

"It was imperative to offer a dense and adapted service for the nearly 16,000 cross-border passengers transported each month. With attractive subscription rates and a journey time comparable to that of a private car (and without the problem of parking on arrival), the choice of the bus is an obvious one.  Strengthening the cross-border transport offering reflects the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region's desire to promote the decarbonization of mobility while contributing to improving the quality of life of its residents."

Julien VUILLEMARD, Regional Councilor responsible for school and interurban transport in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region.

Successful cross-border cooperation

"This type of project perfectly illustrates our shared desire to encourage public transport in order to reduce road congestion and limit the use of private cars for cross-border travel. Line 272 contributes to this goal by offering greater flexibility, comfort, and public transport service.
The operator in charge of the line, Alpbus, and Geneva public transport (tpg) have combined their expertise to offer passengers fast, reliable and seamless mobility. This strong partnership guarantees rapid implementation of the service, starting in December, and a single, centralized customer support service", emphasizes David Favre, Director General of the Cantonal Transport Office of the Canton of Geneva.
