A little history

The Salève cable car is a historical landmark. In 1932, the cable car project was launched, replacing the rack railway: an 8-minute journey compared to 2 hours on the rack railway.

However, war, road development, and the rise of the automobile led to the cable car's complete closure in 1975.

By a Franco-Swiss political agenda, the rebirth of the cable car took place in 1984. But it was in 2013 that the consortium “Groupe RATP, les Transports Publics Genevois and COMAG,” which manages the service, gave it a new lease of life.

After a final two-year phase of work, the cable car will reopen in 2023 as a place for nature, culture, and leisure experiences, complete with a gourmet restaurant.
